Okanagan Digital Marketing Agency
Intro
Stellavate works with businesses across the Okanagan, including Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton. It’s easy to assume this region runs on wine and tourism alone, and both are real, but the Okanagan’s economy is a lot deeper than the postcard version. Tech, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and healthcare all carry serious weight here too, and each city in the valley leans into a slightly different mix.
Why the Okanagan isn’t just a tourism market
Tourism and wine get the attention, and for good reason. The wine industry alone supports thousands of jobs across the valley, and millions of visitors move through the region every year. But the Okanagan is also home to a growing tech sector, a strong manufacturing and industrial base, and a healthcare system expanding to keep up with population growth. That mix means a business here often needs to reach two different audiences at once: the local, year-round customer base, and the seasonal wave of visitors and new residents. A marketing strategy built only around “tourist season” leaves a lot of local search traffic on the table.
Kelowna
Kelowna is the valley’s biggest city and its most diverse economy, with real strength in tourism, events (weddings), technology, healthcare, construction, and agriculture, including the wine industry it’s best known for. Residential construction has been the single biggest driver of the local economy in recent years, and the tech sector, spanning software, digital animation, and communications, has grown enough to be considered one of the city’s core industries rather than a side story. For a Kelowna business, the competition is real. This is the fastest-growing market in the valley, which means more customers, but also more businesses fighting for the same searches.
Vernon
Vernon’s economy grew out of agriculture and forestry, and both are still part of its identity, but the city has diversified into manufacturing, professional services, and technology, and has been recognized as one of the most entrepreneurial cities in BC. It’s a smaller, tighter-knit market than Kelowna, with a business community that leans on reputation and word of mouth as much as advertising. A Vernon business benefits from strong local loyalty, but still needs to show up clearly in search to capture new residents who don’t have those local relationships yet.
Penticton
Penticton calls itself the business hub of the South Okanagan, and its economy is more industrial than its wine-country reputation suggests. Manufacturing alone brings in an estimated half a billion dollars a year from outside the region, on top of the wineries, tourism, and a growing wave of remote workers and professional services relocating here for the lifestyle. For a Penticton business, that means competing against both established local wineries and tourism operators for visibility, and a growing pool of newer, often more digitally savvy competitors moving in from bigger cities.
Closing
Wine and tourism built the Okanagan’s reputation, but they’re not the whole economy in Kelowna, Vernon, or Penticton. We build a strategy for the business you actually run, not the postcard version of the valley.
