Hey there!

Hi, I’m Lori.

Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of being a photographer — along with a movie star and a figure skater like Kristi Yamaguchi. I can’t skate, and despite my performing arts diploma, Hollywood never called. So in 2013 I launched Lori Brown Photography in Kelowna, BC and have been capturing stories ever since.

My love for photography started young. I was the kid bringing disposable cameras to school, hoarding photo albums, and eventually my grandfather passed away and left me his old Navy-issue Topcon SLR which only fueled my obsession. I became a hobbyist, photographing my young kids and within a year I had accidentally booked 20 weddings, 50 family sessions through word of mouth. I soon turned my garage into a photography studio and took photos of sweet newborn babies swaddled in ridiculously small buckets, and then transitioned to documentary and lifestyle photography. By my second year I had won three international awards for my wedding photojournalism (Shoot and Share, Professional Wedding Photographers of Canada).

In 2015 I began working in the film and TV industry in Vancouver in roles such as camera operator, still photographer, second assistant cam, and casting assistant, but though it was fun I found my way back to a calmer lifestyle doing weddings and families.

In 2020, I relocated to Vancouver Island, and post-Covid, I rebranded to Stellavate and expanded into a multi-faceted photography business. Today, we serve clients across Victoria, Nanaimo, Duncan, Parksville, Ladysmith, and beyond.

I’ve mentored under some of the best in the industry, including Kirsten Lewis, Two Mann Studios, and Elisha Stewart of Abby Photography, and I’ve photographed everything from births to corporate events for Tommy Guns and Hudson’s Bay. I’m grateful to have had my work featured in magazines such as Junebug Weddings and on the cover of Island Parent.

With a background in early childhood education, I have a natural ease with little ones, but my true passion lies in mentoring new photographers. I hope to ensure every photographer has the skills to seamlessly photograph any situation, from a pitch-black bathtub birth to a helicopter proposal, without relying on Auto or P mode.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me at the football field cheering loud for my son, or exploring Vancouver Island’s trails, beaches, and hidden corners with my daughter.
